Diamond Certification

A certified diamond is a diamond that has been graded against the 4C's  - Carat, Clarity, Colour and Cut. This provides the basis of the quality assessment and therefore value of a stone, and allows you to shop with confidence in the knowledge that the information you are presented with is unbiased and reliable.

Diamond certification is usually carried out by a qualified gemologist in a third party laboratory, such as the GIA, AGS or HRD. Each certified diamond comes with a physical certificate that you can ask to see when looking to buy a diamond to check everything the seller is telling you is legitimate.  Some jewellers offer self-certified diamonds, but this can be a risky strategy as grading differs considerably from person to person which can present difficulties when comparing stones. The independent laboratories as mentioned above work to a very strict criteria when grading the different diamond characteristics, and therefore make it possible to make a fair comparison between stones and ultimately an informed decision.

Of course, a diamond that is uncertified or self-certified will usually be cheaper that one that is, so why is it so important? Well, certified diamonds will hold their value which is especially important if you are planning to re-sell or upgrade your jewellery in the future. The next person will want to be assured of a diamonds authenticity just as much as you do.

All of the diamond jewellery you see here at Serena is independently certified and we will always be happy to present the certificate to give you the peace of mind you deserve and make your shopping experience a relaxed one.
